Installation

Question:

How do I install my BoatSafe® heater?

Answer:

Professional installation is recommended but complete instructions are included and are also available for download on this website.

Question:

Are there any special considerations in where I place my BoatSafe® heater in the engine compartment?

Answer:

No, the BoatSafe® heater safely uses forced air through its 5 intake and 5 exhaust vents to radiate heat throughout the engine compartment. As hot air rises, placing the BoatSafe® heater as low as possible in the engine compartment will help the heater run more efficiently. All BoatSafe® heaters can be mounted in any direction. New model heaters have a footprint choice option which makes mounting in any angle or orientation possible. This footprint choice mounting bracket is available for purchase on this website or through your marine accessories dealer.

Question:

How close can I mount the BoatSafe® heater to another object in the engine compartment?

Answer:

Although not hot to the touch, direct contact is not recommended since this may reduce the efficiency of your heater. It is recommended to install your BoatSafe® heater at least 6 inches from any rubber hoses or belts. The heating and cooling process can cause premature aging of these components. If your BoatSafe® heater must be placed closer than 6 inches from rubber hoses or belts, a quarterly inspection of these components is recommended.

Question:

Can I mount my BoatSafe® heater upside down in my engine compartment?

Answer:

Yes, you can, but since hot air rises, you will only be heating the top of your engine compartment. Placing the BoatSafe® heater as low as possible in the engine compartment will help the heater run more efficiently.

Question:

I want to place my BoatSafe® heater on the floor of my boat but not use the mounting screws. Is this okay?

Answer:

Some boaters have different needs and may not want to permanently mount their BoatSafe® heater. Just make sure the heater is kept away from or submerged in water. In this instance, it is also best to remove your heater before using your boat to prevent the heater from accidentally sliding into moving engine components.
